Celebrating 100 Years of Hope

This year, we celebrate our 100-year anniversary as a church family! A whole century ago, we began with a focus on prayer, obedience, and reaching the lost, and these three focus points are just as important for us today!

In 1925, Joe Kerekes of Detroit, Michigan, received a word from the Lord to quit his job and move to Lansing, Michigan, to witness to a man named James Nemeth. Joe obeyed, moved to Lansing, and found the man named James Nemeth. When James asked Joe, “How long are you staying?” Joe replied, “Until you are saved.” After James Nemeth was led to the Lord, he started holding meetings in people’s homes. His goal was that every family of Hungarian descent in the city would be saved.

That goal was met through fasting, prayer, and Bible studies almost every night—Mount Hope Church was born!

As we thank God for the past 100 years, through eyes of faith, we look forward towards the next 100. To commemorate, our church is going after these objectives in 2025: 100 new church plants and 100 acts of kindness.

Let’s Share Kindness with Purpose

A random act of kindness is a simple, effective, and fun way to show the love of Jesus to people around you. With each act, simply give an Acts of Kindness card to let someone know they are noticed and loved by God. Acts of Kindness cards are available at Info Hubs on Sundays or our Front Office.

  • Take some cookies to your neighbor, boss, or co-worker.
  • Leave an extra generous tip for your server at a restaurant.
