Hello! I’m Beverly Elcock, known as Ms. Beverly to my students.
My love of different cultures and languages led me to pursue a degree and career in International Business and Marketing. However, God had different plans for my life. Towards the end of my studies in 2012, I joined a small company owned by a local pastors’ wife and began tutoring international students and their families in English. As an ESL tutor and teacher, I began developing relationships with Japanese mothers and their children. Though I had previously been interested in Japanese music and animation, God began to stir my heart even more for the Japanese people through these relationships. While business grew each year and I had the chance to make many wonderful friends, I knew there was something more. After having the opportunity to connect with a missionary on the field, I made the decision to answer the call to missions in Japan.
Now I’m serving in Tokyo, Japan as an English conversation teacher at a local Japanese church. Besides providing some secondary income for the local church, I connect with students and build relationships. These relationships are the gateways for preaching the gospel and helping students know the love, forgiveness, and salvation of Jesus Christ!
Japan is a very unique and challenging place to be a Christian and preach the gospel. For that reason, prayer is so important. Here some things you can pray for:
- Unity among Japanese churches
- Encouragement for Japanese pastors
- Creative vision for outreach
- Holy Spirit revival
Thank you so much for your prayers and support!
