Day 2: How to Fast for Revelation

During these 21 days of prayer and fasting, God is going to speak to you. God speaks through His revealed Word, the Bible, but He also speaks through divine revelation. There is no doubt that God wants to bring powerful answers to the things you are praying for, but He also wants to reveal things to you through this fast.

Revelation is a critical component to our walk with the Lord. Proverbs 29:18 tells us, “When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild.” Apart from God’s revelation, our lives can become increasingly destructive and confusing.

Jesus told the disciples how they would receive such divine revelation:

John 14:26, “But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”

John 16:13-14, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.”

These passages teach us several things about revelation:

Revelation provides wisdom and supernatural insight. The life of faith is a life of learning and discovery. But with more revelation comes more responsibility. Proverbs 25:2 says, “It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.” God doesn’t conceal things from us; He conceals them for us! The same Hebrew word for glory is used both times in the verse – God’s glory becomes a glory we can personally experience as we search and discover, and if we seek, we will find!

Revelation guides us into truth. In today’s pluralistic society, truth has been diluted and redefined based on whatever people think is true. Imagine living your life based on a false truth. This will lead to destructive decisions, poor choices, and ultimately a life of confusion and chaos. But God wants your life to flourish, and revelation is key to receiving His guidance and direction in every season of life.

Revelation reveals the future. Throughout Scripture, God regularly revealed coming events to different people. Whether through dreams, visions, or divine visitations, God’s desire is to lead us into the future. He cares about the paths our lives take and offers to show us the way to go.

God wants to speak and reveal things to us through this time of prayer and fasting. Our job is to seek revelation, and God promises He will reveal it! So, as you’re fasting and praying, be expectant for God to speak – grab a journal and a pen. Write down what He says because it will prepare and direct you in the days ahead.

Scriptures

Proverbs 29:18 (NLT)
When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild.

John 14:26 (NLT)
But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

John 16:13-14 (NLT)
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.

Proverbs 25:2 (ESV)
It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.

Ephesians 1:16-17 (NIV)
I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Day 1: Here as in Heaven

Today we begin 21 days of prayer and fasting, and we are calling on God to answer the “here as is Heaven” prayer that Jesus taught us to pray. This is not a timid, play-it-safe kind of prayer, so it is no surprise that the person who taught us to use those bold words was none other than the Son of God. Jesus said, “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.’” (Matthew 6:9-10).

There is no doubt the disciples were taken aback by such an audacious request. As New Testament Scholar Leon Morris writes, “In Heaven, God’s will is perfectly done now, for there is nothing in Heaven to hinder it, and the prayer looks for a similar state of affairs here on earth.” Sometimes it’s hard for us to see anything beyond hinderances—earthly roadblocks to Heaven’s agenda abound. So, there’s a choice: do we yield to the current state of affairs that surrounds us or do we refuse to accept the status quo of our sin-sick world and believe for the priorities and power of Heaven to flood our lives? Jesus’ instruction makes the answer quite clear—we believe for “here as in Heaven.”

As the Kingdom of Heaven advances, the powers of darkness begin to retreat. We can pray confidently for healing, sickness does not exist in Heaven and God is our healer. Anxiety can be defeated because God is never worried, and He is our help in any time of trouble. We can be assured that as we call on God, He will make the impossible possible.

As we prepare our hearts for these next 21 days, we are praying for Heaven to come, and as God’s will is accomplished on the earth as it is in Heaven, we will see what we have never seen before!

Scriptures

Matthew 6:5–10 (NIV)

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. “This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.

Revelation 21:4 (NIV)

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Pray for Ukraine

Urgent Prayers for Ukraine

As the potential of a Russian invasion increases in Ukraine, Mount Hope’s Eurasia region is asking for urgent prayers for peace be offered up.

Currently, two Mount Hope missionary families plan to stay in Ukraine, while five will return to the United States. Five more families were already in the United States for itineration, and will remain stateside until further notice.

Missionaries Gerald and Jane Dollar say, “Everyone is speculating and preparing for an invasion, but that hasn’t happened. We read the American News and it is accurate reporting. A devastating invasion in the east could happen, and air strikes on Kyiv could happen. Everyone is preparing—most civilians have a plan. The situation is grave, but GOD! He will not forsake us. Only His mighty hand can stop the imminent bloodshed. That is what Christians on both sides of the conflict are believing for. Churches are on high alert. We’ve been called to prayer and fasting.”

The Pentecostal Union

Amid Ukraine’s population of 44 million, 11,000 registered evangelical organizations and churches exist. The Mount Hope’s primary partnering organization—the Pentecostal Union—has 1,800 established churches. And 3.6% of the population is evangelical believers.

In recent years, the Pentecostal Union, in partnership with Mount Hope personnel, has engaged in aggressive church planting across Ukraine, realizing that years of peace gave them unprecedented opportunity to work quickly and thoroughly.

“We must seize this opportunity and plant as many churches as we can before doors are closed. Our task is to prepare and send leaders to new churches,” says Vasiliy Voytovich. (In September 2015, ETS launched the first Russian-language Doctor of Practical Theology program in the former Soviet Union of which Voytovich is the president!)

His wife, Lyubov, agrees, “Every day, I and my 10 younger siblings left for school unsure if we would even get home to see our parents,” she says. “The government was threatening to take us from them unless they raised us as atheists. So, I know that what we have opportunity to do now is important! Please pray that we will have the wisdom to catch and realize what God wants us to do in the midst of what He is doing so quickly. We don’t want to miss anything that He needs us to do.”

Prayer Points

The Pentecostal Union has issued a call to prayer and fasting January 30—February 6, with the following prayer points:

  • Peace in the region
  • That many will come to repentance
  • That the good news of Jesus Christ will be preached widely throughout this crisis
  • For sound minds and peaceful hearts

In addition to our calls to prayer, many believers have already been fasting for weeks around the world. We know there is a miracle needed! And God will show up. I’m sure of it.

Abiding in the Secret Place

I will do as Jesus did, abide in the “Secret Place” and Pray (John 15:4)

Thank God (Ps. 100:4)

  • Thank you, we are not disappointed when we pray. We know you will carry out your plans upon this earth.
    (Jer. 1:4-12)
  • Thank you, for sparking a flame of revival among the churches in our community. We reunite our faith together to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth. (Mt. 6:10)
  • Thank you, God, for more! More power as the Holy Spirit comes upon us. (Acts 1:8)
  • Thank you, God, for the faithful givers who support our missionaries
    world-wide.
  • Thank you, God, for the new missionaries you are raising up from Mount Hope Church to go and preach the Gospel with signs and wonders following. (Mark 16:20)

Ask God (Jn. 14:13-14)

Ask and you shall receive….

  • God, we are asking for “greater works,” supernatural demonstrations of signs and wonders. (Jn. 14:12)
  • God, we are asking for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit over this region, the 50-mile radius around Mount Hope.
  • This outpouring releases more!
    • More of God’s love
    • More of God’s healing and
      deliverance
    • More awareness of God our Father and His love for us
    • More of God in our families
    • More Power in the Holy Spirit
    • More unity among believers
  • Lord, we pray for more of your love in the hearts of the families in our community. (John 13:34-35)
  • Lord we pray that You would open our understanding, aligning ourselves with Your truths, causing the “rain of righteousness” to fall upon us and our families. (Ex. 33:13)
  • Lord, we pray this year we would see more missionaries launched from Mount Hope Church in the world than any other year. We pray our missionary connections would bear great fruit, especially in our own city and at the MSU and LCC campuses.
  • Lord, we pray for a bountiful harvest—for all those who have sown seeds in 2018 and who are pledging new seeds into the mission field in 2019. We declare a great harvest of returns on every seed sown.
  • Lord, we pray that you would guide Pastor Geoff and his team all through 2019 as they connect with new missionaries and continue to align our selves with the 2019 goal to double. Double our given to missionaries and outreach from $1.5 million to $3 million, and to double our intercessors from 250 to 500 intercessors.
  • Lord, we pray for more of your presence in the churches of our community.

Listen to God (James 1:19)

  • Pray and declare as you hear God speak to you in the “secret place.”
  • Lord, I declare more unity in the Body of Christ. Lord, I declare more of your presence, more miracles.
  • Lord, I declare 2019 will be the year of open doors. Miracle, signs, and wonder doors, healing doors, salvations doors, the door to heaven and God’s divine presence and glory.
  • Lord, I declare more believers are being added to the family of God in 2019.
  • As a flame hits a dry piece of wood and becomes inflamed, so the fire of God will move across this land and into the hearts of His people, transforming lives.
  • Lord, I believe that you are making a way in dry places. The rain of righteousness is cutting away through rocks and boulders—clearing a path for Jesus and His Kingdom to come on this earth as it is in Heaven.
  • God is raising spiritual moms and dads to mentor the children of this city.
  • God is breaking traditions and comfortable places. We will listen to the Holy Spirit and give Him permission to move more freely among us.

Know who God is. (Romans 8:28)

  • “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
  • We ask in faith, and know you always watch over your words to perform them. (James 1:6; Jer. 1:12)
  • We know that you said you would never leave us or forsake us; therefore we are confident that You will lead us into all truth. (Heb. 13:5; John 16:13)
  • I know that you are a great and awesome rewarder. We take this time to seek you in faith and prayer for wisdom from above for all things pertaining to life and godliness. (Heb. 11:6)

Remember

God commanded the Jewish people to celebrate Purim (March) and Passover (April) throughout their generations. Purim celebrates their deliverance from the evil plot of Haman, which was to have every Jew killed; Passover reminds them of God’s mighty deliverance from Egypt.

Prayer: Father, I pray that You will watch over the Jewish people as they celebrate your commanded festivals.

Declaration: I declare a grace awakening and revival in Israel. I declare that as the Jewish people across the world celebrate Purim and Passover, remembering what God did for them, their hearts will be open to receive the greater gift, Jesus, their Messiah.

Government and Leadership

Prayer: Father, I pray for a unified Israeli government, one that will seek to know the heart and will of God and obey. I pray for heavenly visitations, dreams and visions. I pray against occult practices, that they will be leaders in turning the nation of Israel to Jesus as their Messiah. I pray for proper alignment with other nations and leaders. I thank you for other nation leaders that boldly stand with Israel.

Declaration: I declare that Israel’s leaders will know the times and what Israel ought to do, as they seek God and His wisdom.

Protection and Safety

Harassment and anti-Semitic acts against the Jewish people and their property are dramatically increasing across the nations, even in America.

Prayer: Father, I pray for a concerted effort to combat these expressions of hatred and violence, and that world leaders will strongly condemn anti-Semitism.

I pray for God’s mercy upon the men and women entrusted with Israel’s internal security; for alertness, integrity and righteous judgment to govern their actions.

Declaration: I declare peace for Jerusalem and the nation of Israel. I declare angels surrounding Jewish communities. I declare that random acts of kindness will overtake random acts of violence.

Ministries and Messianic Jews

Congregations are seeing exponential growth of youth, young families with children, who are being mentored for leadership.

Prayer: Father, I pray that You will continue to build Your church throughout Israel. I pray that pastors are refreshed, encouraged and that people’s lives are transformed through their ministry. I pray that revelation, truth and prophecy will be released in services. I plead the blood of Jesus over the pastors, their families and congregations.

Declaration: I declare a thousand times more anointing over every pastor, congregation and ministry throughout the nation of Israel. I declare that all of Israel will be saved.
