Joe & Alice Lear
Country/Region: Serbia
Mount Hope Supported Since: 1999
We are Joseph and Alice Lear, appointed Assemblies of God missionaries. We are serving in the country of Serbia in Southeastern Europe. We have a vision to reach Serbia and the Balkans through evangelism, church planting and the training of ministers.
We lead a Bible school (Grace Pentecostal Bible School) solely for the purpose of training people for ministry. Classes are held one weekend each month during the school year and students do the remainder of their work at home using Global University home study courses. This enables the students to remain in their churches and continue in ministry while studying. In addition to Bible school teaching we visit the local churches to encourage and help where needed.
We hope you will visit our blog often to receive updates on our ministry here in Serbia and see photos and videos of Serbia and our work here.
Our background…
Prior to becoming Assemblies of God World Missions (AGWM) missionaries in 1989, we were home missionaries in New Jersey and planted a church in Paterson, NJ. On the mission field we served three terms in West Africa. We were involved in open-air evangelism, church planting, children’s ministry and translation work. We also helped establish a literacy school in the Bambara language and taught at the Bambara language Bible school in Burkina Faso.
We also worked with Global University in Springfield, MO where we were involved in the development of ministerial training courses in both French and English. This included coordinating a project to write an evangelism and discipleship course to reach the animist world, which makes up 40% of the world’s population. Joe also wrote an undergraduate course in marriage counseling that will be used around the world.
